Kids listen to whatever music their parents listen to first. Mike heard a lot of R&B that his mom would play, and Herman knew all the lyrics to every song in Jagged Little Pill. Each found their way to hip hop once they were able to make their own musical choices. They talk about the first songs that grabbed them, Mama Said Knock You Out, and Dear Mama, and go from there to talk about their hip hop histories and current day listening habits. They discuss the various styles they are drawn to, and how honest perspective is what elevates an artist, whether they're experience is slanging and gang banging, struggling to live an honest life in a difficult world, or aging into early bedtimes and costco shopping, rap about what you know.

This episode is about what's going on currently in la Casa de Familia Fouse. The biggest change is that we are saying goodbye to the only school our kids have known, and where my wife has been an administrator for 8 years. This wasn't just a school to us, but a home away from home with people we care about that served our kids and all students to the highest levels. 
Other changes include me starting Adderall for the first time, I'll tell you what changes I've noticed so far and talk about the learning process that it's been.
I'll tell you about a recent visit with the in-laws that gave me a couple different stories to tell, and close with some scenes from inside the house as we have dealt with rats in the attic.

Growing up with cystic fibrosis meant growing up in and out of the hospital. In this episode I walk through what that life has actually looked like day to day — the setup ritual I do every single admission, how hospital food has evolved across thirty years of stays, the night nurses who will absolutely wake you up every two hours if you let them, and what it has meant to go through all of it first as a kid trying to kill time, then with Brenda by my side, and now as a father calling home every night to hear about what they ate for dinner while I was gone.

What does it actually feel like to be stuck? In this episode, I talk about the different forms that stuckness takes in my life — depression, anxiety, ADHD paralysis, and the ways they can look similar on the outside while feeling completely different on the inside. I also talk about the guilt, shame, fear, and self-doubt that come with it, along with the progress I’ve made in learning how to live with it.
